Skincare tips for brides-to-be

In the run-up to your wedding, here are some tips to follow from Ishween Anand, founder and owner, Nyassa.

Load up on water
Your skin needs water no matter what your skin type is. Also, foods like watermelon, grapefruit, broccoli and lettuce which are water-rich. They work great for your face.

Exfoliate
Your skin will need regular exfoliating to help improve the overall texture of your skin.

Get facials
Go for deep cleansing facials at least once and month to prep your skin before the wedding. As it will help to reduce discolouration caused by the sun and also rude acne marks.

Moisturise
Moisturise your skin each day; at least twice, over your face and all over your body. Also, make sure you give extra attention to areas that are excessively dry, like elbows, knees, feet and hands.

Sleep
All these beauty treatments will have no use on your skin unless you have a good eight hours of sleep every night. It is one of the most beneficial things for your skin.

Eat skin-friendly foods
There are foods that will help you from internally to have a natural glowing skin. Foods like salmon, turmeric, beetroot, avocado, mango, kiwi, green vegetables, legumes and broccoli will make keep your healthy and glowing naturally.

For smooth lips
If you have dry chapped lips; you can exfoliate your lips by using an old soft bristled tooth-brush or by using your wash cloth in the shower. Rub gently for 30 seconds to de-flake your pout. Apply lip balm every night to moisturize dry, cracked lips.

Avoid toners containing parabens
Toners form an important part of your skincare regimen, but most toners contain parabens. Hence opt for rose water as it's the most convenient and natural toner for your skin.

Visit a dermatologist
If your skin is prone to acne, you need to get it checked by a dermatologist who can prescribe a treatment for it. Since it will take some time to get this problem under control, it is best to visit a skin specialist well in advance.

Keep makeup safe
Clean your applicators, brushes and puff regularly. Also avoid lipsticks that are older than one year and check for expiry dates on products as well.

Use sunscreen
Protect your skin from premature aging or sun rays. This is done by using sunscreen on your neck, face, back, and arms to avoid sunburn.

Above all, be positive and stay happy since a cheerful bride attracts more attention.

Dos and don'ts
- Splash water several times a day to ensure that there is no appearance of under eye circles and puffy eyes.
- Don't let dirt stay. Wash your hair with shampoo on a regular basis.
- Apply Argan oil or almond oil to your hair twice in a week for nourishment.
- Just before the big day, get your beauty care session at a beauty parlour to reap maximum benefits.
