Just when you think menopause means your period woes are over and you no longer have to worry about being on the pill, you're in for a rude shock. As menopause begins to set in, you might find yourself going through a number of symptoms like fatigue, weight gain, vaginal dryness, hot flashes, mood blues et al. These symptoms can be quite unpleasant and can turn your otherwise comfortable life topsy turvy. That's why it's necessary to take extra care so you can cope with menopause better. Here are a few healthy tips for menopausal women to follow.
Exercise everyday.
Studies suggest that women who are more active face fewer symptoms of menopause. Make sure you add enough exercise to your daily routine once you enter your 40s. Exercising increases your metabolic rate, combats weight gain and helps elevate your mood. Even a 30-minute walk will help your body cope better.
Get enough sleep.
Adapt to a sleeping routine where your body gets at least eight hours of sleep each day. Sleeping well will help beat fatigue and night sweats.
Don't forget the nutrients.
Your body will need a number of essential nutrients to stay healthy while coping with menopausal symptoms. Make sure you include vitamin and antioxidant-rich foods as these will benefit you the most. But do not forget that lean proteins, grains, fruits and vegetables should also be included to ensure that you consume a well-balanced meal.
Practise relaxation techniques.
Hormonal changes take charge during menopause which lead to a number of psychological symptoms like anxiety, stress, mood swings and a lot more. The best way to deal with these mood blues is to take up some relaxation techniques. Meditation and yoga have proven to be very useful to calm down during chaotic times like these.
Do research on your condition.
Not understanding your condition can be quite distressing. It is absolutely important to educate yourself about menopause, its symptoms and all the changes that happen to your body as a result of it. A better understanding of it will help you relax and accept the changes better.
