Environment, Forest, and Climate Change Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan warned today (Dec 28) that strict actions would be taken against forest land grabbers and environmental violators.
No matter how influential the offenders are, the government will act against them, she said while speaking at a discussion in Gazipur.
Rizwana said that 16 acres of the 90 acres of occupied forest in Gazipur had been recovered since August 5 and announced plans to recover all occupied forest lands within the next three months.
She instructed deputy commissioners to speed up the demarcation of forest boundaries.
The adviser also stressed that actions would be taken to prevent deforestation and industrial pollution. She called on the Department of Environment to thoroughly review permits and include public opinion in the renewal process.
The meeting, chaired by Gazipur DC Nafisa Arefin, was attended by local officials, law enforcement, and environmental activists.
They discussed local environmental issues, illegal forest occupation, and pollution.
Rizwana urged both government and private sectors, as well as citizens, to actively protect the environment and promised prompt actions to resolve these concerns.
