Friends of the Poor Prof Yunus and Grameen Bank

Professor Muhammad Yunus, the global advocate for the poor and the pride of Bangladesh, is currently serving as the Chief Adviser of the interim government. His legacy as the founder of Grameen Bank has made him a beacon of hope for millions worldwide. Through Grameen Bank, he has introduced Bangladesh to the world, drawing the attention of leaders from various nations who have come to witness this revolutionary model.

Despite harsh criticism from the previous government, Yunus's unwavering dedication to Grameen Bank and its mission to uplift the impoverished remains undeniable. His journey began with a small project in the impoverished village of Jobra, where he inspired the local community to engage in various small-scale businesses. The success of this project eventually led to the establishment of Grameen Bank in 1983, which now operates in 97 countries, including the United States through Grameen America.

Grameen Bank's mission is simple yet profound: to bring banking services to the doorstep of the poor, enabling them to break free from the shackles of poverty. With over 10.5 million members, Grameen Bank has become a symbol of hope and empowerment for the rural poor, achieving an impressive loan recovery rate of 97%.

Professor Yunus’s contributions have earned him numerous accolades, including the Nobel Peace Prize in 2006, recognizing his efforts in economic and social development. His work has been celebrated globally, with prestigious awards from countries like the United States, India, Japan, and many others. Despite these honors, he faced relentless attacks and baseless allegations from certain quarters of the Bangladeshi government, particularly after the airing of a Norwegian documentary in 2010.

The legacy of Professor Yunus, however, is far too significant to be tarnished by political machinations. His life's work has inspired millions, and his principles of social business and microfinance have set a global standard for poverty alleviation. As he continues to lead the country in its interim phase, it is hoped that the nation will unite in support of this visionary leader.
