DHAKA: Opposition BNP called hartal in Rajshahi and Joypurhat for Saturday and Sunday protesting the January 5 parliamentary election.
Our Joypurhat correspondent reports, Jatiyatabadi Krishak Dal and Peshajibi Parishad called 48-hour hartal in the district in protest against the ‘confinement’ of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia at her residence.
The front organizations of BNP declared the shutdown in a protest rally in front of Prithibi complex in the district town at around 10:30am.
Meanwhile, District Peshajibi Parshad president Afjal Hossain, General Secretary Advocate Moksedur Rahman, Joint Secretary Bajlar Rahman, Organizing Secretary Anisur Rahman, District Swechhasebak Dal General Secretary Asaduzzaman Ripon and others were present in the rally.
In Rajshahi, District BNP called dawn-to-dusk hartal demanding the withdrawal of cases against their leaders and activities and cancellation of upcoming the 10th national election.
District BNP General Secretary Advocate Kamrul Monir, in a press conference at around 10:30am Friday, called the hartal for Saturday and Sunday.
