DHAKA: Election Commission (EC) has postponed voting in 436 polling centers across the country as BNP-Jamaat activists’ attack destroyed election equipments.
Polling in these centres would be held again by January 24.
EC sources said that the voting have been postponed in 20 polling centres in Thakurgaon, 47 in DInajpur, 15 in Nilphamari, 54 in Rangpur, two in Kurigram and 114 centres in Gaibandha district.
Besides, some 46 vote centers in Bogra, one in Sirajganj, 15 in Jhenaidah, 60 in Jessore and two each in Sherpur, Magura and Jamalpur districts were postponed.
Meanwhile, one in Munshiganj, one in Moulvibazar, two in Habiganj, two in Brahmnabaria, 16 in Comilla, one in Feni, 31 in Laxmipur and 15 polling centres in Chittagong district were postponed from casting votes.
Due to hijacking and destruction of election equipments, EC postponed voting in the centers, the sources added.
To protest the voting, miscreants torched more than hundred polling centers in almost all districts including the capital, Dhaka, Rajshahi, Nilphamari, Narsingdi, Kishoreganj, Feni, Kurigram and Natore, Habiganj, Chittagong, Gaibandha, Comilla, Laxmipur, Jessore, Dinajpur, Rangpur, Thakurgaon, Jamalpur, Sherpur.
