JHENAIDAH: Two youths were killed and two police injured in a clash between two groups of local Awami League at Tikari village under Sadar upazila of the district on Saturday night.
The deceased were identified as Arif Hossain, 25, son of Tayeb Ali and Shah Alam, 35, son of Inrahim Biswas.
Fursandi Union Chairman Shahidul Islam Shikdar, also leader of an AL faction, said “Supporters of Abdul Malek chopped by my nephew Shariful Islam with lethal weapon at evening. Following the incident, two groups locked into fierce clash at around 8:30pm.”
On information, police rushed to the spot and fired couple of shotgun bullets to bring the situation under control, leaving Arif Hossain dead on the spot and four others sustained bullets injuries, he added.
Later, the injured were sent to Magura Sadar Hospital where Shah Alam succumbed to his injuries at around 12:00am.
Advocate Abdul Malek, leader of another AL faction, claimed that supporters of Shahidul Islam Shikdar, in guise of DB police, killed Arif Hossain.
