DHAKA: The Supreme Court appellate division adjourned till January 28 the appeal hearing of Jamaat-e-Islami Nayeeb-e-Amir Delwar Hossain Sayedee, who was awarded with death penalty by International Crimes Tribunal.
The five-member SC bench headed by Chief Justice Muzammel Hossain passed the order on Tuesday noon.
The other judges are Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha, Justice Abdul Wahhab Miah, Justice Hasan Foez Siddique and Justice AHM Shamsuddin Choudhury.
Sayedee’s lawyer Advocate ASM Shahjahan filed petition seeking time to the court as the senior lawyers of Sayedee were absent in the hearing.
The judges of the apex court deemed the matter and postponed the hearing for a week against the time plea.
However, the appeal hearing was started on September 24, 2013 in the presence of Attorney General Mahbub-e-Alam, against the verdict of death penalty by ICT-1.
On February 28, Jamaat leader Delwar Hossain Sayedee was sentenced to death for his involvement in crimes against humanity during liberation war in 1971.
