DHAKA: Law, Justice and Parliamentary Minister Anisul Haque on Tuesday said BNP Senior Vice-Chairman Tarique Rahman would be granted bail as per procedures if he surrenders to the court.
The ruling Awami League lawmaker came up with the assertion while talking to journalists at his secretariat office after a meeting with British High Commissioner Robert Gibson.
On November 17 last year, a Dhaka court acquitted BNP senior vice-chairman Tarique Rahman of the much-talked-about money laundering charge.
The court, however, sentenced his business partner Giash Uddin Al Mamun to seven years’ imprisonment and fined Tk 40 crore.
On October 24, the lawyers of the accused completed their cross check of Deputy Director of Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Mohammad Ibrahim, the Investigation Officer of the case filed against Tarique Rahman.
On May 26, Dhaka-3 Special Judge Mojammel Haque issued arrest warrant against Tarique Rahman in money-laundering case.
