DHAKA: Election Commissioner M Shanewaz on Sunday expressed hope that the upcoming upazila elections would he held in a peaceful manner.
The election commissioner made the hope while talking to journalists at election commission secretariat office.
He said, “The present political situation and law-and-order situation is better than earlier. So, the upazila polls will be held without any violence.”
In response to a query that joint force’s role may create horrific situation among the people during election, he said, “This is the job of the government and the election commission will not intervene.”
Shahnewaz also said they have taken adequate security measures to hold the polls in peace. “The army may no be deployed as the situation is improving day by day,” he said.
