JHENIDAH: BNP-led 19-party alliance observed half-day hartal at Court Chandpur and Maheshpur upazilas in the district on Monday without any violence protesting the death of local Jamaat leader in a gunfight with combined forces on Saturday night.

Jamaat central leader Professor Motiar Rahman told banglanews that the program was declared from an emergency meeting of Court Chandpur upazila 19-party on Sunday noon protesting the death of upazila Jamaat finance secretary Enamul Haque.  

Central organizing secretary of BNP Moshiur Rahman, also Jhenidah district convener of 19-party, criticized the killing.
