DHAKA: Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid announced on Monday that the government would not spare those who indulged in violence at Rajshahi University on Sunday.
The minister gave the assurance while speaking to reporters in his secretariat office.
Nahid said, “I am ashamed of what happened on the Rajshahi University campus. And I`m very sorry about it too."
The Minister said he had discussed the matter with Home Minister who is also in favour of stringent action against the culprits.
He also directed RU vice-chancellor to open the varsity as early as possible.
At least 100 students were injured when police and activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), the student wing of the Awami League, attacked students brandishing firearms and lethal weapons on the Rajshahi University (RU) campus Sunday.
After the shocking incident, RU authorities held an emergency syndicate meeting and closed the varsity sine die.
Three platoons of BGB have been deployed on the campus from 4 pm yesterday to maintain law and order.
The university authorities also ordered students to vacate their dormitories by 8:00am on Monday and students have complied with the order.
