DHAKA: The day-long hartal, called by Jamaat-e-Islami, is underway across the country from 6:00am Thursday amid stray incidents of cocktail explosion and bringing out brisk processions.
The party is observing the countrywide shutdown protesting the death penalty against its Ameer Motiur Rahman Nizami in 10-truck arms haul case.
Activists of Chhatra Shibir, the student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami, exploded three cocktails in Shahjadpur area in the city on Thursday morning.
Some 15-20 leaders-activists of the organization, led-by its Dhaka city (north) secretary Foysal Parvez and publicity secretary Kamrul Islam, brought out a brisk procession in the area around 7:15am and blasted couple of cocktails.
But Chapainawabganj was kept out of hartal because of Hindu pilgrims.
On the other hand, Dhaka road transport association declared to run buses in Dhaka and its adjacent areas.
Earlier on Wednesday night, following the hartal, Shibir activists blasted cocktails and set fire to a truck in Rajshahi.
Besides, law enforcers were kept alert position to avert any untoward situation.
