RAJSHAHI: Branding BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia `queen of destruction`, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina declared that her (Khaleda`s) movement “killed scores of innocent people”.
 
The premier, also ruling Awami League president, leveled the allegation while addressing a mass rally here on Saturday afternoon.

Criticizing the BNP-Jamaat coalition government, the premier alleged that many innocent people were killed during its regime.

She also claimed that the people of the country did not respond to BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia`s ‘March for Democracy’.

Hasina told her audience that BNP has mastered the art of killing and corruption. “A total of 135 people were killed during hartal and blockade enforced by BNP and Jamaat alliance,” she said.

The AL chief also claimed that her government generated enough electricity which proves its working day and night for the people.

Earlier in the day at Sarda Police Academy, the premier announced that 50,000 more police would be recruited soon to improve law and order.

She added that initially 20,000 would be appointed to Bangladesh Police.

Pointing out the role of police in combating terrorist and militant outfits in last few years, Sheikh Hasina alleged that a section of political parties was aiding and abetting criminals. But her party initiated the trial of war criminals and patrons of militancy and terrorism.
