Govt not thinking about interim polls: Hanif

KURIGRAM: Joint general secretary of ruling Awami League Mahbubul Hanif on Saturday categorically said the government is not thinking about interim general elections right now.

The spokesperson for the party also said that presently 85 percent people support the government.

Hanif also came up with the assertion in a party activists’ meeting at Kurigram Officers’ Club ground.

AL leader said, “A USA-based organization ‘Democracy International’ opined against Awami League government by their survey. They are now telling that that people have support to the incumbent government.”

About talks with BNP, he said, “They (BNP) are terming the incumbent government as illegal. Then what will you discuss with an illegal person.”

With Kurigram district unit Awami League president Aminul Islam Manju Mandal in the chair, central organizing secretary Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury MP, former commerce minister Faruq Khan and district unit Awami League general secretary M Zafar Ali were among others present on the occasion.
