Amir Hossain Amu placed on 6-day remand 

The Dhaka court today granted a six-day remand to former minister and Awami League advisory council member Amir Hossain Amu in a case filed in connection with the shooting and killing of businessman Abdul Wadud during the anti-discrimination movement in Newmarket area of the capital.

Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Shaheen Reza issued the order as police produced Amu before the court and pleaded to place him on a ten-day remand in the case.

Jahangir Arif, the investigating officer of the case, applied for the remand of Amir Hossain Amu, who is also the coordinator of AL-led 14 party alliance.

Earlier, the Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested the Awami League leader Amir Hossain Amu from the Dhanmondi area in the capital on Wednesday (November 6).

According to the case documents, businessman Abdul Wadud was shot dead by the police in the Nilkhet area under the New Market police station on the afternoon of July 19 during the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.

In this incident, his brother-in-law Abdur Rahman filed a murder case against 130 people including former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, former bridges minister Obaidul Quader, and others.
