BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said that nothing other than democracy will prevail in Bangladesh.

He made the comment during a brief speech at a rally in front of the party’s central office in Nayapaltan, Dhaka, on Friday (Nov 8). 

This rally was held before a procession held to mark the National Revolution and Solidarity Day.

Earlier, a prayer session was held at the rally, led by Kazi Md. Selim Reza, the convener of the Bangladesh Jatiotabadi Ulama Dal.

In his speech, Fakhrul said that for the last 17 years, Sheikh Hasina and her allies have looted the country. "We have fought against her for these 17 years. Finally, it was the movement of students and the people that forced her to flee the country.”

He added that although Hasina has left, her allies are still lurking in the shadows. 

"We are ready to oust any evil force and remain united for the future," Fakhrul emphasized.

He went on to say that BNP will demonstrate today that it is the largest political force in the country, as it was in the past. Fakhrul also paid tribute to the late President Ziaur Rahman, the leader of the revolution on November 7, 1975, which restored Bangladesh’s sovereignty.

He also noted that just as Ziaur Rahman took charge of Bangladesh after the revolution, his wife, Begum Khaleda Zia, did the same. Now, the leadership has passed to Tarique Rahman.

BNP Vice Chairman Tarique Rahman addressed the rally virtually as the chief guest. National leaders and members of the BNP’s Standing Committee were also present at the gathering.
