Police arrested 10 persons in separate raids across different parts of the capital on charge of carrying out directives from a recently viral audio clip allegedly featuring Awami League President Sheikh Hasina.
According to a press release by Mohammad Talebur Rahman, Deputy Commissioner of the Detective Branch (DB) of police, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) is on high alert to prevent any conspiracies against the state.
The release said that efforts to apprehend the instigators, financiers, and others involved are ongoing. The viral audio clip reportedly features AL President Sheikh Hasina instructing party members to use pictures of newly elected US President Donald Trump and US flags as shields in illegal rallies, and to document any vandalism or insults that might occur.
According to the press release, the group was attempting to damage the strong ties between Bangladesh and the United States. Acting on intelligence, the DMP arrested 10 members of the group during operations in various areas of Dhaka on Saturday night.
A significant number of provocative posters, images, placards, and cash were seized during the raids, it added.
