DHAKA: Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad says it would have been better if his party had turned down the ministership offered by Sheikh Hasina.

He was addressing the annual sports meet at Banani Biddya Niketan School and College as chief guest.

Ershad said: “People have doubts about the role of opposition in parliament. I have the same doubts as well.”

He said the responsibility of the opposition is to criticize the faults of the government and to raise the level of governance for the sake of the common man. "So Jatiya Party should have perhaps opted for the role of true opposition."

Ershad also advised students not to resort to politics which would harm them in the long run.
