BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia is set to join the Armed Forces Day reception today at the Senakunja in Dhaka Cantonment, marking her first appearance at the event in nearly 12 years (November 21).

ABM Abdus Sattar, personal secretary to the party chief, confirmed the matter on Wednesday. 

This will be Khaleda Zia's first participation in a state function since her imprisonment in February 2018. 

It would be her first participation in the Armed Forces Day event since 2012.

On Tuesday night (November 19), Chief of General Staff of the Army Lt Gen Mizanur Rahman Shamim and Principal Staff Officer of the Armed Forces Division Lt Gen ASM Kamrul Ahsan delivered the invitation letter to the BNP chief.

This year’s Armed Forces Day programme will begin at 4 pm on Thursday at the Senakunja in the capital.

Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus is also scheduled to attend as the chief guest, along with political leaders, administrative officials, business figures, diplomats, and journalists.
