AL rebel candidate wins in Maheshkhali

MAHESHKHALI (COX’S BAZAR): The rebel candidate of Awami League Hossain Ibrahim was unofficially elected chairman in Maheshkhali upazila polls.

Hossain Ibrahim bagged 36,373 votes while BNP rebel candidate Habibullah Habib secured 30781 votes 3, said election officials.

Assistant Returning Officer Anwarul Naser announced the result officially on Saturday at 12:30am.

The voting started from 8:00am in the morning and ended at 4:00pm Saturday.

Some 25 candidates fought for three posts—chairman, vice-chairman and woman vice-chairman—in the upazila.

There are 188,528 voters in total where male 96,876 and female 91,655 in the upazila.

A total of 766 polling officers, 68 presiding officers and 383 assistant presiding officers, observed polls duty in 383 booths of 68 polling centers in the upazila.
