Fakhrul concerns over fair election

DHAKA: Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) acting secretary general Mirza Fhakrul Islam Alamgir expressed his party’s concern over the free and fair upazila polls.

The third phase of the upazila election is scheduled to be held in 81 upazilas across the country on Saturday.

Fakhrul told media after placing floral wreaths to the tomb of former President Ziaur Rahman on the occasion of release of Swechchha Sebok Dal president Habibun-Nabi Khan Sohel, general secretary Sharfat Ali Sapu and Shafiul Bari Babu from jail.

Fakhrul said after listening to the provocations of some ministers and Awami League leaders, it is hard to believe that the polls would be free and fair.

If the elections would be fair, the people would cast their votes against the government, he added.
