JCD president, secy sent to jail

DHAKA: A Dhaka court sent president and general secretary of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) to jail rejecting both the bail and remand petitions in several cases.

Metropolitan Magistrates Rezaul Karim and Maruf Hossain passed the order after hearing on the petitions.

The leaders are Abdul Kader Bhuiyan Jewel, the president of JCD and Habibur Rashid Habib, JCD general secretary.

Earlier, police produced Jewel with a 24-day remand pleas in the four cases filed with Shahbagh and Sutrapur thanas.

Besides, Jewel’s lawyers also filed bail petition.

On the other hand, Shahbagh thana police sought 14-day remand for JCD secretary for interrogation.

The cases were filed against them for their alleged involvement in vandalizing, torching vehicles and blasting bombs on May, July and November last year.
