DHAKA: BNP criticized and condemned Election Commission (EC) for its recent activities and acting election commissioner for their controversial comments against the party.
The standing committee’s stance came in a discussion on Wednesday night.
BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia presided over the meeting.
Joint secretary general of the party Salahuddin Ahmed Thursday made the disclosure through a press release.
According to the release standing committee blamed EC for the vote manipulation and polls time violence in recent upazila polls.
BNP leaders said that EC and administration extended support to ruling Awami League aspirants.
They also criticized the partial manner of law enforcers and passive manner of EC in the polls.
This partial manner proved that any fair and free election is not possible in the tenure of ruling Awami League, it added.
Recalling the protest movement of boycotting election of January 5, the party leaders alleged that hundreds of party activists were killed, around 50 were disappearance, thousands of leaders and activists were charged in false cases by ruling party.
Moreover, the party expressed its concern about political crises of the country, price hiking, corruption, Teesta water sharing issue and so on.
The committee condemned and termed the government as unsuccessful and urged the people to take initiatives against it.
