DHAKA: “There is no need of worry for the neighbouring countries if the NDA comes to power and Narendra Modi becomes the Prime Minister,” said Mahbub Hassan Saleh, deputy high commissioner of Bangladesh in India.

The Bangladesh envoy was in Varanasi on a two-day visit on Saturday to assess the political scene and understand people`s mood in view of Lok Sabha elections.

He was keen to assess whether the NDA gets comfortable lead to form its own government without taking support from leaders like Jayalalithaa or Mamata Banerjee.

"I personally feel that Modi is open in his approach. He talks about development and cordial relationship with all," said Saleh in an informal chat with TOI.

His positive outlook is evident in recent interviews, he said. The entire world is watching the Indian general elections. There is nothing to worry for the neighbouring countries if Modi comes to power.

Saleh interacted with many people. He wanted to know the mood of people from lower class of the society and impact of BJP`s alliance with Apna Dal. He was keen to know about the candidates challenging Modi and the strength of parties like SP and BSP.

The Bangladesh envoy also tried to understand what would happen if NDA fails to reach the magic figure of 272.
