Hartal observed in C’nawabganj

CHAPAINAWABGANJ: The half day hartal, called by district Jamaat-e-Islami, was observed in the district on Wednesday amid stray incidents of violence.

The party observed the shutdown protesting the detention of newly elected Sadar upazila Chairman, also Jamaat leader Professor Mokhlesur Rahman.  

Jamaat-Shibir activists brought out a protest procession at 7:00am and set fire on tyres on roads supporting hartal.

The picketers also vandalized a night coach of Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC) in Bakultola area on Chapainawabganj-Sona Mosjid highway.

High Secondary of Certificate examination remained out of purview of hartal.

Besides, police, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and Border Guard Bangladesh personnel were seen patrolling at various points of the upazila.

Though long route vehicles service remained stopped but light vehicles were seen plying on roads.

Meanwhile, most of the shops of the town were closed and no goods-laden truck left Sona Mosjid land port.

Earlier on Tuesday morning, police detained the newly elected Chairman Mokhlesur Rahman when he went to take oath at Rajshahi Divisional Commissioner Office.

Chapinawabganj Sadar Model Thana Officer-in-Charge Jasim Uddin told banglanews the Jamaat leader was wanted in several cases and he was produced before court with a seven-day remand plea.
