DHAKA: A Dhaka court placed cricketer Shahadat Hossian Rajib on a three-day remand rejecting his bail petition in the case ‘for torturing domestic help’.
After hearing, Dhaka metropolitan magistrate Yusuf Hossian passed the orders on Thursday morning.
Earlier, Shahadat was produced before Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court from jail with a 7-day remand plea.
Police's prosecution wing assistant commissioner Mirash Uddin moved for the petition while lawyer Fahmida Akter Rinky stood for rights organization Bangladesh Mahila Ainjibi Samity.
On the other hand, Shahadat’s lawyer Kazi Najibullah Hero sought bail after cancelation of remand order.
On October 5, he surrendered before the CMM Court in a case filed on allegation of ‘torturing domestic help’ and filed a bail petition.
Later, a Dhaka court sent him to jail rejecting his bail petition.
On the other hand, another accused of the case, the cricketer’s wife Jesmin Jahan Nitya has already landed in jail.
The same court on Sunday sent Nitya to jail rejecting a 5-day remand petition filed by police.
However, it asked the police to quiz her at jail gate for three days within five working days.
Mirpur Model Thana police detained Nitya in the case filed on allegation of ‘torturing domestic help’ early Sunday.
On September 6, an 11-year-old domestic help Mahfuza Akter Happy was found injured in Kalshi Journalist residential area.
