BPL 3 Match 6: Barisal Bulls (BB) Vs Sylhet Superstars (SS) Played at SBNCS Dhaka on 24 November 2015
Barisal Bulls 107 All Out ( Nabil Chowdhury 24 , Rony Talukdar 20, Sabbir Rahman 15,Nazmul Islam 3/ 18 ) beat Sylhet Superstars (SS) : 107/9 ( EDY Munaweera 36 ,Al Amin Hussain 5/36 ,Taizul Islam 3/ 23) by 1 Run.
Barisal Bulls the lone team from the entire southern region representative of Bangladesh recorded a thrilling 1-run win in the low scoring second match of BPL on Tuesday.
Al Amin the emerging pace bowler took his second 5 wickets haul and the second hat trick of BPL which led his team robbing the Sylhet Superaltars of a very much probable win.
Set to score a relative easy target of 109 to win Superstars could manage 107/9 in the allotted overs. It was their second defeat in as many matches on consecutive days and coincidentally by the same margin of 1 run in both matches.
The feature of the match was a brilliant hat trick and a 5 wicket haul by young Al Amin Hossain. Here is a youngster who was made to return home from Australia in a controversial manner without proven allegations of suspected activities of match fixing.
Some of the knowledgeable cricket community of Bangladesh considered it a very harsh action against a talented young fast bowler. The allegations against him were not subsequently probed but he was ignored in all domestic international series.
Getting back his opportunity this year he has started bouncing back with a bang. Yesterday his team BB was defending a very low target of 108. The youngster with a special action of his own single handedly destroyed the backbone of the superstars’ batting. He started the slide in his very first over dismissing national player Mominul Haque.
In the second third and fourth ball of his second and the teams third over he accounted for Bopara, Nurul Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim. He was fast and accurate and moved the ball viciously in both ways at pace. 4 wickets for 18 runs by the 4 th over stuttered SS innings even on a low target hunt. All the while Pakistan speedster Mohammad Sami was bowling fast and furious. His miserly 4 overs produced only 9 runs.
Two Nazmuls of SS tried to resurrect a little bit. Sami Al Amin combination accounted for both. Taijul Islam took 3 wickets with his tight spin bowling and nervous batting of late to late middle order batting.
The match went down to wire. When Taijul came to bowl the last over the match was still open with SS requiring 8 runs for a win with two wickets still at hand. Sami and Al Amin were bowled out.
Mohammad Shahid was picked in the very first ball of the last over. Yet with Edwards there SS were hoping against hope. He knocked off 2+2 = 4 in the next two balls reducing the target with a stroke. Requiring four to win in the las few balls the last pair could manage 2 losing by the barest of margin..
SBNCS witnessed yet another nail biting thriller. For the second consecutive day fortune did not favor SS as losing any match by 1 runs always breaks the heart.
Earlier batting first BB batted very poorly against not too difficult SS bowling attack. Edwards fresh from the flight looked a bit jittery but Shhaid was steady. Most of the BB wickets were gifted through careless stroke play.
Nazmul Hossain was the destroyer in chief with 3/18. 6 batsmen could not even reach double figures. There was no venom in the wicket excepting balls coming a bit late making stroke play a bit difficult.
For third day in succession first matches witnessed run feast while runs dried out in last matches. Few very ordinary umpiring decisions were witnessed.
Young Bangladesh national players Rony Talukdar, Shabbir and Mominul demonstrated their lack of T20 skills. Al Amin’s first spell of 4 wickets in two overs changed the fate of the match.
The ball he earned hat trick uprooting the stumps of Bangladesh test captain Mushfiqur Rahman was an exceptional delivery. He also disturbed the furniture of Nazmul Hossain. The mayhem started with Robi Bopara nicking his second ball of his second over behind. It was just reward of a highly talented young pacer.
Barisal bull winning back to back matches are in a much better position. No other team has so far won two. Chris Gayle and Keiron Pollard are scheduled to join BB at some stage. The early advantage of BB would serve them better.
Sylhet Superstars must consider them unfortunate. With a little bit of luck going their way they could win both. When a team loses a match by the barest of margin going so near to victory it hurts. Hope SS would recover soon.
