DHAKA: A very confident Under 19 tiger cabs had a cake walk over visiting West Indain teenager in one sided First of the ODI of the 4 match series.
The Caribbean teenagers are in Bangladesh as part of their preparation for the ensuing Under 19 World Cup set to start in End January.
Caribbeans were virtually blown away by 8 wickets being outclassed in all department of the game. Set to bat by the Bangladesh Captain West Indians were clueless against high quality spin attack of the home team.
Left Arm Orthodox spinner Shawon and two off spinners teased and tormented the visitors crushing them all out 114 in 39.2 Overs. Bangladesh cruised home in only 20.3 overs scoring 116 /2.
Bangladesh went into 1-0 lead of the four match series and early symptom indicates that visitors may struggle throughout the series to prove competitive. Bangladesh looked a well prepared team confident to improve further.
Many rate the home team as one of the firm favorites Tiger Captain Mashrafee put across to them to enjoy each game without being burdened with high ambition. That they must do and that will make them play to their potential. Success will beacon them.
Caribbean juniors were seen groping in the dark in handling the four prong junior tigers casting webs around their bat. Shawon, Sanjit and Saeed (“three S”) ran riot grabbing 8 wickets among them in 26.2 overs giving away only 47 runs.
Eight batsmen could not even reach double figures. Pope (31 in 41 deliveries) and Stewart (30 in 60 balls) could only provide some resistance. Bangladesh bowled according to a plan and fielded aggressively.
A target of 115 could never test the strong Bangladesh batting. Yet they lost Pinak Ghosh early in the second over and Joyraj Sheik a little later. Prolific Shanto and impressive Saif added unbeaten 70 runs in 82 deliveries earning a highly satisfying 8 wickets win.
Shanto remained unbeaten on 41 while Saif also was not out scoring 39. The preparatory mission of Tiger Cab well launched.
This team looks to have potential. If they can set small target match after match and iron out their game sky will be their limit. Tiger juniors impressed in their first preparation match.
Yesterday they were hardly stretched. It will be interesting to see how they approach the next three matches. Obviously sub continental teams India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka will be real challengers.
