India finish as Group D champion

DHAKA: India Under-19s beat Nepal Under-19s by seven wickets in the 19th Match of ICC Under-19 World Cup at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium at Mirpur in city on Monday (February 1).

Earlier, India Under-19s captain Ishan Kishan won the toss and elected to field first in the Group D match.

The match reduced to 48 overs a side as it started half an hour later than the scheduled time due to dense fog.

Nepal managed to score 169 runs losing eight wickets from their 48-over quota. S Sunar, Rajib Singh, P Tamanag and Aarif Sheikh scored 37, 35, 29 and 26 runs respectively.

Avesh Khan picked up three Nepal wickets while MJ Dagar and Washington Sundar took two wickets each.

While chasing, India U-19s hurtled to their target of 170-run. They scored 175-run losing three wickets in just 18.1-over.

Opener RR Pant hit the fastest Under-19 fifty in just 18 balls. He scored 78 runs from 24 balls with the help of nine 4’s and five 6’s.

Captain Ishan Kishan scored 52 runs. Besides, Sarfaraz Khan was unbeaten with 21 runs.

P Tamang picked up two Indian wickets while S Lamichhane took one.

India finished being group D champion, Nepal have also qualified by winning two games. New Zealand and Ireland have been knocked out.
