DHAKA: India Under-19s have scored 267-run losing nine wickets from their 50-over quota against Sri Lanka Under-19s in the first semi-final of ICC Under-19 World Cup 2016 at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium at Mirpur in city on Tuesday (February 09).
Earlier, Sri Lanka Under-19s captain KIC Asalanka won the toss and elected to field first in the match that began at 9:00am.
Anmolpreet’s 72 off 92-ball, Sarfaraz’s 59 off 71-ball, Washington Sundar’s 43 off 45-ball and Arman Jaffer’s 29 off 16-ball helped India U-19 through those middle and latter overs and finish with a strong 267 after a shaky start.
Sri Lanka were excellent at the start, but their performance got increasingly poor as the innings progressed. AM Fernando picked up four wickets while CBRLS Kumara and SHTN Nimesh took two.
Sri Lanka youth will have to chase a tough 268-run to find a place in the finals.
Both sides had registered thumping wins to enter the semis.
India U-19s may have the wood over Sri Lanka U-19s, having clinched the Tri-nation series final in Colombo in December 2015.
Sri Lanka captain Charith Asalanka, on the other hand, believes that his side has the edge for their win over England.
