DHAKA: At the beginning of the tournament, the team looked fragile and weaker than other teams. Besides they struggled to reach quarterfinals. None thought they can win trophy, but they did it.

Yes, it is West Indies, which just have won their first ICC U-19 World Cup trophy beating India by 5 wickets at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in city’s Mirpur area on Sunday.

The Caribbean did well, first in fielding and later with steady batting. And finally they danced as well, of course an African-style.

With a strong hope and possibility to win the trophy, West Indies started chasing 146-run target, set by India in final match of the tournament.

Keacy Carty scored 52 and Keemo Paul 40 to lead the team to victory. Indian bowler Mayank Dagar got three wickets.

Earlier, India lost all wickets to score 145 runs. Winning the toss, West Indies decided to bowl first, a proven good decision taken by skipper Shimron Hetmyer.

Sarfaraz Khan hit 51 runs, Batham 21 and Lomror 19 to lead the team to 145 runs. No other batsmen could score a double digit run.

Caribbean bowlers did a great job to pave way for the team to win trophy of the tournament. Joseph and John bagged three wickets each while Paul got two.

Bangladesh skipper all rounder Mehedy Hasan Miraz was awarded Man of the Series.
