DHAKA: Netherlands are out of the ICC World T20 as the officials called off their match, the 7th Match of First Round Group A against Oman due to incessant rain.

The match was scheduled to be played at Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala of India on Friday (March 11).

Earlier, Oman captain Sultan Ahmed won the toss and invited the Netherlands to bat first in the rain-interrupted match.

However, it could not be played as the rain did not stop.

If the second match at this ground between Bangladesh and Ireland is also rained off, then Oman and Bangladesh will tussle for one spot from this group. Underdogs Oman already have stunned Ireland in their first match.

Netherlands captain Peter Borren said, “There’s extreme disappointment. We’ve put in a lot of time, effort and energy in trying to qualify. For it to end like this after having lost to Bangladesh in a closely-fought game, we are gutted”.

“We could (have) done a lot of things better in that game, it will haunt us for a while. We don’t get a lot of opportunities at this stage. As someone says, our next chance could be in four years time,” he added.

Meanwhile, Oman captain Sultan Ahmed said, “We were confident coming into the game. We are still alive if we beat Bangladesh. We put in consistent performances in the qualifiers in Ireland and Scotland. They are all excited”.
