DHAKA: The Pakistan players indulged in raucous celebrations clinching victory over India by two runs in a rain-hit match on Saturday (March 19).
The rain interrupted just when India was on top. Pakistan can take a lot away from this game, their batting at the start was packed with positive intent but crumbled under the pressure as the innings proceeded.
Before it started raining, Pakistan women scored 77 runs for six in 16 overs in response to the India-set 97-run (later 76-run in D/L method) target.
Sidra Ameen scored the highest 26 runs. Besides, Anam Amin was adjudged the player of the match for her economy bowling.
Earlier in the day, Pakistan won the toss and elected to field. India lost seven wickets to get 97 runs in their innings. V Krishnamurthy took 24 while M Raj and H kaur scored 16 each.
India were exceptional in the field, led by Jhulan Goswami, after some loose bowling in the Powerplay, and that may have proved to be the difference in the end.
According to Mithali Raj, “The Pakistan bowlers were very disciplined and were backed by good fielding. The pressure was on us. I really hope we get a game in Dharamsala, the next two games are very crucial for us”.
