DHAKA: South Africa have beaten Afghanistan by 37-run in the 20th Match in Super 10 of ICC World Twenty20 at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai of India on Sunday (March 20).
Earlier, Proteas captain Faf du Plessis won the toss and elected to bat first in the must win match of Group 1.
His batsmen gave the team a solid score of 209-run losing five wickets from their 20-over quota.
AB de Villiers hit a blazing 64-run off 29-ball while Q de Kock, F du Plessis, JP Duminy and David Miller scored 45, 41, 29 and 19 runs respectively.
Of the Afghan bowlers, Amir Hamza, Dawlat Zadran, Shapoor Zadran and Mohammad Nabi took one wicket each while du Plessis ran himself out.
In response, Afghanistan could manage 172-run losing all wickets from their 20-over.
Opener Mohammad Shahzad scored a fiery 44-run off 19-ball with the help of five 6’s and three 4’s. Besides, Noor Ali Zadran, Gulbadin Naib, Samiullah Shenwari, Najibullah Zadran and Rashid Khan took 25, 26, 25, 12 and 11 runs respectively.
CH Morris picked up four wickets for South Africa while K Rabada, KJ Abbott and Imran Tahir took two wickets each.
South Africa have lost their first match against England whereas Afghanistan lost to Sri Lanka.
