DHAKA: Brazil suffered a shocking 1-0 defeat to Peru in their final Group B match and were eliminated from the Copa America Centenario tournament at Gillette Stadium of Foxborough in Massachusetts of USA on Sunday (local time).
Peru’s Raul Ruidíaz appeared to hit the ball into the Brazil net with his hand in the 75th minute, but the goal was allowed by referee Andres Cunha, reports espn.
Dunga’s team needed a draw or a win in the match against Peru to qualify for the last eight from Group B, but the loss sends them packing and leaves Peru as group winners with Ecuador finishing second.
However, it has to be said that this is a harsh result for Brazil given the circumstances of the goal, which clearly shouldn’t have been allowed, but they rested on their laurels for far too long.
Urgency was lacking and, while no one deserves to concede like that, they only have themselves to blame for letting it get to that point.
