Why BCB Boss Is So Agitated?

Some very inconsistent and completely uncalled for statements of BCB President has recently appeared in different print media of Bangladesh.

Over the last few days he reacted very angrily to ongoing strong criticisms of some unfortunate incidents of DPL 2016 and controversial decisions of BCB regarding selection process of is like the desperate utterance of a sailor of a sinking boat. He is ruling party MP winning the election from a constituency which used to belong to his illustrious father .His illustrated mother was also a reputed political leader and a sad victim of ugly politics of Bangladesh.

Now from the confused state of cricket management affairs by BCB critics are gossiping that his accession to the chair was out of sympathy to his parents and his job in a controversial business house which has made Bangladesh cricket administration an extension of their business. Very few people in Bangladesh can adjust with the warmth of the chair he holds. Perhaps he requires some counselling now to get his composure back.

The DPL 2016 was marked with diabolic umpiring, many off the field conspiracies and evil doings engineered for a particular team which BCB president and majority of the BCB executives are linked with. The team was perhaps the strongest but without generous on field and off the field assistance it may now have even featured in the super six. But they not only moved into super six but also won the championship.  Various incidents were regularly reported in almost all the media. BCB president as guardian of Bangladesh cricket should have taken fair actions. Instead he reacted very poorly evidencing his blessings behind all these incidents. He made himself an object of ridicule while ignoring the allegations of deliberate mistakes by some identified umpires to favor his favored team. He failed to play his role as neutral board president.

Why should BCB get involved in umpiring disputes? Why he should defend against criticism of umpiring and lopsided activities of CCDM which clearly engineered for a particular team? He brought into reference the umpiring of Ashes Series to defend umpiring mistakes. One media reported his utterances as “Beating about the bush.” Was he playing the role of a promoter of a particular team? Did he forget his position of BCB president?

His reactions about the reports on two tier selection process are a testimony that it was his brain child. He himself admitted that he regularly interfered in the selection process and now he was institutionalizing that. His unequivocal support for manager and head coach in the selection process evidenced his utter disregard to the wisdom of Bangladesh Cricket Captains of the past who were members of previous selection committee. He also maligned Mashrafee, Mushfique, Shakib and Tamim mentioning that they were not gusty enough in protesting some controversial instructions of the head coach. It is unfair in not giving every devil ones due.

The selection process of national teams and other teams in every other country playing cricket almost follow the same pattern that was in operation in Bangladesh .It is not that this was above controversy .But overall there were very little reasons to remodel it and creating a new unique system never in practice anywhere . Head coach and captain can always pass on their suggestions to selection committee. But they are not to be necessarily in the committee.  Manager of a cricket team deals with logistic and administrative affairs. He has no role in the selection anywhere. Perhaps two persons now holding these positions in Bangladesh Cricket were to be favored in some way by BCB think tank and that is why the innovation was made and BCB boss could not take the sharp criticism in sporting manner. His remarks have created bad breadth and complicated the matter.

We are not very surprised about his comments about the journalist as we always consider that he does not have cricket education and he is unaware of the development of Bangladesh cricket. He is not aware what role sports writers and journalist community have played for bringing cricket to where it is now in Bangladesh.

In any case at this critical stage of Bangladesh Cricket requiring very strong and fair BCB there must be a properly elected body to take cricket to its desired destiny. Enough must be enough for everyone.
