DHAKA: Chile have won the Copa America Centenario cup beating Argentina in the penalty shoot out by 4 goals to 2.
The match progressed into the penalty shoot out as both the teams failed to score in the 120 minutes.
Castillo Mora, Charles Mariano Aránguiz Sandoval, Jean André Emanuel Beausejour Coliqueo and Francisco Andrés Silva Gajardo scored for Chile in the tie-breaker while Javier Alejandro Mascherano and Sergio Leonel Agüero del Castillo scored in favour of La Albiceleste.
Chilean Arturo Erasmo Vidal failed to score in the shoot out. meanwhile, Lionel Messi missed the post skying the shot while Chile’s goal keeper Bravo guessed right and got two hands to deny Argentina’s Lucas Rodrigo Biglia.
The match was full of energy and speed as both teams adopted a more direct approach in possession.
Chile had 54 percent of ball possession while Argentina had 46.
Both teams came down to 10-man as Marcelo Alfonso Díaz Rojas of Chile saw two yellow cards in the 28th minute of the match while Faustino Marcos Alberto Rojo of Argentina saw red card in the 43rd minute.
Following the two red cards in the first half spectators’ knew there would be more drama in store, and that exceeded all expectations as fifth-ranked Chile deny first-ranked Argentina a first major title since 1993.
Argentina players are inconsolable. They made no reservations about how much this means to them, and they’re left unsatisfied once again.
Full credit to Chile who delivered a masterclass as they are deservedly crowned champions for a second year in a row, having never won the tournament before 2015.
