AFTER VISITING BARCELONA, SPAIN: Grameen Phone (GP), one of the leading mobile phone operators of the country, took initiatives for marketing smart phones with connections so that the receivers could avail 3G benefits more readily.
Vivek Sood, chief executive officer of GP, made the disclosure while talking to journalists at World Mobile Congress in Barcelona of Spain.
He also said, “GP has been focusing on data service so that they easily can reach more people with their service of internet connections.”
“The number of receivers of voice call is increasing and this growth will continue in the next few years. But GP aimed to the growth of internet users because through this we can earn more revenue,” he added.
Sources from GP said that they planned for marketing smart phones within the price of Tk 4,000. They also submitted a proposal to Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) in this reagard.
Current numbers of GP customers are 4.47-crore, among them one crore people use internet services.
GP bought 10 Mhz spectrum from 3G auction in September, 2013.
Vivek Sood added that the number of GP internet users rose upto 45 percent after the introduction of 3G internet service in the country.
