DHAKA: Japanese Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. on Wednesday announced it sold more than 7 million PlayStation 4 (PS4) videogame consoles in just over four months to April 6, reports USAToday.
This is a double the number of the older version, PlayStation 3, sold in about the same time frame after its launch.
PS4 software sales - retail and digital - totaled 20.5 million copies worldwide by April 13 since the console launched last November, Sony said in the statement.
In a statement, Andrew House, President and Group CEO of Sony, said demand for the PS4 remains "strong."
"The response from the global gaming community for PS4 has been overwhelming and we are truly humbled that gamers are selecting PS4 as their next generation console of choice," said House.
Gamers can expect to have a choice of 120 PS4 titles in 2014, including Destiny from Activision Blizzard Inc and NBA 2K15 from Take-Two Interactive Software Inc.
Chief rival Microsoft last revealed official sales figures for its Xbox One since January, when they announced the console sold more than 3 million to end 2013.
