DHAKA: Bangladesh has been awarded the prestigious ‘World Summit on Information Society 2014 Prize’ at the WSIS+10 High Level Event of ITU at Geneva before the Ministers, Heads of UN organizations and the civil societies.
State Minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak received the prize in a grand ceremony at the ITU Head Quarters in Geneva on Tuesday.
The award is a tribute to the dream of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for digital Bangladesh through her epoch making ‘vision 2021’ and outstanding achievements within a short span of 5 years and bringing fundamental changes in providing services to ‘Citizen’s Doorstep’ towards the pursuit of good governance.
Access to Information (A2I) Program is one of the most important enabler under Prime Minister’s Office for digital Bangladesh.
In the last few years, incumbent government initiated digital services through the innovative use of ICT in almost all the sectors of the governance like agriculture, education, health, civil facilities, land management, commerce and above all government administration.
All the above successes have been done through “bottom up” approach particularly through creation of ‘government services hubs’ at the local government level. This approach has been highly appreciated by the world community and many countries have shown serious interest to emulate that.
The world community has particularly recognized the achievements of the government through the project A2i.
