DHAKA: Samsung has temporarily suspended business with one of its suppliers, Dongguan Shinyang Electronics, after conducting an investigation prompted by China Labor Watch report on 10 July accusing the Chinese supplier of employing children.
Samsung’s investigation found evidence of that its supplier hired children on 29 June and its decision was taken in accordance with the company’s zero tolerance policy on child labour.
Samsung said it routinely inspects suppliers in China, and conducted three previous audits that found no cases of child labour at Dongguan Shinyang Electronics since 2013, the latest ending on 25 June.
Samsung said it will strengthen the hiring process at its production facilities and those of suppliers to prevent such cases from happening again.
The Chinese authorities are also looking into the matter, reports telecompaper.com.
