DHAKA: A project has been taken to provide free internet service in every government office across the country in accelerating services.

Sate minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak made the disclosure while addressing a seminar at Bangladesh Computer Council (BCC) auditorium in the city on Thursday.

The AL lawmaker said the internet service will be provided to 18 thousands government offices under the ‘banglagovnet’ project.

The IT communication will be established from the ministries to the offices of Upazila Nirbahi Officers, he added.

Some 18,000 tabs will be distributed among the officers to make the government works dynamic, Palak said.

He put importance on establishing digital administrative system to build a digitalized country. He also mentioned that the incumbent government is taking another project called ‘Stramission Digital Connectivity’.

This will help create connectivity between government and common people, Palak hoped.

The state minister said that a total of one lakh free Wifi hotspot zones will be created to ensure free internet services in every department of government offices.

He also expected that the nation will be connected to the second submarine cable by 2016 to ensure transparency and dynamism in government works.

He hoped that the new connection will provide 1,300 GBPS speed. Besides, the fifth largest data center of the world will be set up to reach government cloud (G-cloud) by this time.

Moreover, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has already approved the project of USD 200-crore, Palak informed the audience.

BCC executive director chaired the program attended by Secretary-in-Charge of ICT Division Shyam Sunder Sikder and banglagovnet project director Mahbubur Rahman, among others.
