Bangladesh Railway has taken the initiative of introducing Wi-Fi service in all inter-city trains.
Through the steps, country’s railway sector is entering the digital era. The world will come in hands of the passengers with the help of electronic device such as smartphone and laptop!
According to Bangladesh Railway sources, mobile operator Grameenphone has already started setting of Wi-Fi connections to inter-city trains. Full Wi-Fi service is set to introduce in this week at Subarna Express on Dhaka-Chittagong route.
All inter-city train services including Mahanagar Probhati, Turna Nisitha, Mahanagar Godhuli, Rajshahi-bound Silk City and Padma Express and Sundarban Express on Dhaka-Khulana route, will be under free Wi-Fi services in phases.
The services will be launched in some other inter-city trains before the forthcoming Eid.
Bangladesh Railway Director General (DG) Amzad Hossain on Saturday told banglanews that a plan has been taken to bring inter-city trains under internet connection aiming to digitalize the train services.
In first phase, Wi-Fi service will be launched in Subarna Express this week. All the inter-city trains will be under free Wi-Fi service in phases, he added.
He further said on Thursday that Wi-Fi service has been introduced on test in a compartment of Subarna Express.
Railway minister M Mujibul Haque is expected to inaugurate the service this week.
But an officer of Grameenphone told banglanews that they will provide the free Wi-Fi service for first six months. Then the company would seek charge from railway authorities.
