DHAKA: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s ICT affairs adviser Sajeeb Wazed Joy inaugurated the trial run of biometric registrations for SIM of cell phones.

He opened the pilot project through buying a SIM and giving his fingerprint on the biometric device at secretariat in city around 10:30am Wednesday.

During the time, Sajeeb Wazed, also son of the Prime Minister, said in the biometric registration of mobile-phone SIM cards, Bangladesh is the second country that feels proud to me.
 
State minister for posts and telecommunications Tarana Halim and Secretary Faizur Rahman were also present at the inaugural ceremony.

"The biometric registration of SIM will officially begin from December 16. Biometric registration system will be available at the customer care centres of the mobile phone operators from Nov 1.

Before this, a trial of this process has been inaugurated on Wednesday (October 21).

The initiatives to verify and preregistration mobile SIM cards have been taken to prevent the criminals who allegedly use many SIMs registered under fake names or unregistered.
