PM opens Angarpota-Dahgram 3-G services

DHAKA: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina thanked to Grameenphone, one of the leading mobile phone operators in country,  for introducing 3-G internet service in Angarpota-Dahgram of Lalmonirhat.

The premier inaugurated the third-generation (3-G) services through video conference at Ganabhaban, PM’s official residence, on Wednesday noon.

During the time, PM Hasina said, ‘We made the first digital telephone service available in Bangladesh after coming to power in 1996.’

In the tenure of BNP government, the price of mobile handset was Tk 1.20 lakh and call rate was Tk 10 per minute. A minister used the mobile phone. Network of the phone was available at only Chittagong and Dhaka.

Sheikh Hasina went on, ‘After assuming power, our government privatized the mobile phone services.  We first let Grameenphone, Aktel and Seba to do business in the country. Now, we are using 3-G services.’

She again thanked to GP for facilitating this service in remote areas like Angarpota-Dahgram.
