DHAKA: Robi customers across the country will get a wider and better access to internet as the mobile operator is set to launch Wi-Fi services for them.
Country’s one of the largest internet service providers AccessTel has become Robi’s partner in providing all technical supports to make this initiative successful.
An agreement signing ceremony between the two companies was held at Robi Corporate Office in city’s Gulshan area.
Robi’s chief operating officer (COO) Mahtab Uddin Ahmed and AccessTel’s chief executive officer (CEO) Zain Omar signed the agreement on behalf of their respective organizations.
According to them, this initiative will be a perfect match for Bangladesh government’s manifesto of creating a `Digital Bangladesh’ by 2021.
It will also be another step forward in implementing Robi’s pursuit for becoming the number-one operator in small-screen data.
At the same time, the new service will greatly be a complement to its ongoing 3G rollouts to meet the burgeoning demand for high-speed and low cost internet services.
The Wi-Fi service will initially be introduced in the country’s key metropolitan cities and gradually to be expanded to other areas.
Speaking about the initiative, Mahtab Uddin Ahmed said, ‘Robi has always been facilitating the government’s objective of turning Bangladesh into a digital nation’.
‘This initiative in partnership with AccessTel would lead to a more connected, informed and empowered population.’
‘We believe that the internet-based future that everyone is looking forward to is right here. And we intend to continue our pursuit of empowering the people of Bangladesh with the power of the future.’
Among others, Robi executive vice-president of market operation Jean-Michel Arnaud Chanut, vice-president of corporate strategy Iftakharul Islam, general manager Mohammad Moshiur Rahman, manager Tofazzol Hussain and AccessTel’s sales and marketing head Rahat Khan were also present at the ceremony.
