DHAKA: Posts and telecommunications ministry has taken initiatives for mobile SIM registration in biometric system of ministers and members of parliament (MPs).
State minister for posts and telecommunications Tarana Halim told banglanews that a temporary center will be setup at Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban in city during forthcoming winter session of the 10th parliament.
Six mobile phone operators will setup their devices for SIM registration there as parliamentarians can take the services easily.
A letter in this regard has been sent to Jatiya Sangsad speaker, the state minister added.
Tarana Halim went on saying, ‘On approval of the Speaker, the service will be available in parliamentary next session. MPs and ministers can get SIM verification facilities at Sangsad Bhaban within seven days’.
On December 16, Tarana Halim inaugurated the process of biometric SIM card registration system at Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) bhaban.
The government has undertaken the initiative aiming to register SIMs of all operators within four months.
According to BTRC data of November this year, there are a total of 131,996,000 active SIM cards of six mobile phone operators in the country.
Earlier on October 21, Prime Minister’s ICT affairs adviser Sajeeb Wazed Joy inaugurated trial run for biometric registration of mobile phone SIM cards by registering a SIM for himself.
