Dhaka: Posts and telecommunications state minister Tarana Halim wants to facilitate smartphone and high-speed internet service to the users living in country’s rural area with a minimum price.
In her Facebook post, the minister said that she has already discussed with many international and local handset-producing companies about establishing a mobile hand set manufacturing industry in Bangladesh to make price of smartphones minimal.
She also has plans to provide smartphone in installments to the poor populace under this project.
In a post on her verified Facebook account, the state minister said, “Postal and telecommunication division is working for customer services and satisfaction”.
“Hence, we want to ensure that the whole populace of the country can use smartphones and high-speed internet. We are working on it.”
Tarana Halim further said, “We have discussed with Ericson Manufacturing Company. We are interested to open a mobile and chip producing industry, which will produce cellphones to meet the need of the country”.
“Moreover, it would create job for the people of this country.”
The state minister also said, “We have talked to the local cell phone producers like Walton, Symphony and other companies. We are working to reach the smartphone and internet service to the root level in an easier way”.
“We are also trying to give smartphone to the poor people in installments and we hope that we will be able to start the project soon. Besides, we will start the smartphone and 3G service simultaneously soon.”
To realize “Minimum price smartphone for all” project, Tarana Halim also urged everyone to give their feedback and suggestions in this regard.
