DHAKA: State Minister for posts and telecommunications Tarana Halim wants to facilitate smartphone for the farmers in lower price and easy installment.
The farmers and the root-level populace will get the chance to buy smartphones in Tk 25 to 30 per installment, she added.
The state minister disseminated this information while inaugurating the Telecom Reporters Network Bangladesh’s (TRNB) website at secretariat in city on Thursday (February 11).
Regarding the supply of smartphone at lower price, Tarana Halim asserted, ‘Discussion was held with the Telecommunication Infrastructure Service organization Ericsson. They are keen to produce mobile chips in Bangladesh. This will help create more jobs and cellphone price will be cheaper’.
The state minister further said, “Discussions also took place with Walton. It has shown interest about facilitating cellphone to the marginal-income populace axing some apps”.
“Walton said it is possible to give smartphones in 25 to 30 taka per installment. I want to give a smartphone to every farmer’s hand,” Tarana Halim added.
Expressing hopes to reach smartphone to every hand of the root-level people, she said, “I want to give smartphone in the hands of every farmers and laborers within Tk 1,000 to 1,500”.
Posts and Telecommunications Division secretary Faizur Rahman Chowdhury, TRNB president Rashed Mehedi and general secretary Shamim Ahmed were also present at inaugural function of TRNB (trnb.org) website.
